In Wine Heaven + Lily and the Vet

Dinner last night consisted of sole wrapped crab fillets that Andy and I got as a Christmas present from my dad this year. My dad sent us a bunch of food from Omaha Steaks, and when I saw that fish was on the menu for last night, I immediately thawed those babies out!

We enjoyed the fillets along with roasted green beans and brown rice on the side.

Yesterday, we got a little big suprise in the mail that we had forgotten about while we were in Mexico!

My Dog Thinks She’s Jillian Michaels

Now that the holidays are over, I can no longer blame the hustle and bustle of the season for my lack of running outside with Lily. Sure, it’s still 10 degrees, and for most people that would be a good enough excuse to stay under the blankets, or hit the treadmill in the warmth of your gym.. but not for Lily.

Lily has taken on a new role as my own personal Jillian Michaels. And she is ruthless.

I’ll tell her that it’s just too cold, and she’s like:

A Big Bucks Win!

Our trip to Milwaukee couldn’t have gone any better.. the Bucks beat the Heat! I didn’t know that was even possible. But it was. And I’m happy.

We opted to stay overnight after the game in Chicago, and booked a hotel a few days ago. We landed on the Aloft Milwaukee, because Andy did some searchin’ and found out that it was a dog-friendly hotel, and dogs stay FREE. That pretty much settled it for us.

Back Seat Rider

Well our trip to get Ryan went well… for Andy and I, at least.

Lily had to experience her first big girl trip today! She was getting just a little too big for sitting on my lap, so we laid down a blanket and confined her to the back seat of the Jeep today.

She was not happy about it. She tried to get to the front seat in every way possible. Over my arms, under my arms, around Andy and under the seats.. but it wasn’t gonna happen. Big girls have to learn eventually..

Poor baby.

Thankfully, she eventually gave up and fell asleep and the ride home was much smoother.

Now we’re home, watching football, and I’m drinking my new wine.

Life is good.

Happy Holidays everybody!

Up Early and Chicago Bound

This morning began with a 5:00 wake-up call..

I was not havin’ it. But I hopped out of bed anyway, put on 26392 layers of clothing and started the trek to my apartments exercise center.

That is the fakest smile I have ever made. You’re welcome.

I had to get up early, because finals week really took a blow to my workout regimen, and as I am writing this, we are on our way to Chicago to pick up Andy’s brother Ryan to bring him home for Christmas.

Ryan was having car trouble, so we offered to come pick him up so he would be home for Christmas. But leaving our house at 8 meant that an early workout was in order, and after majorly slacking during finals week, I really needed to get to the gym.

I was running on the treadmill and hating it, so I ended up switching to one of my go to workouts for days when running makes me hate the world, Ashley’s Roll Out of Bed Treadmill Workout.

I ended up completing just over 4 miles.. Success!

Now it’s off to Chicago! Have a great day!!

Tell me:
1.) Do you have days when you have no patience for the treadmill?
2.) What do you do to make treadmill workouts less boring?

Oven Baked Honey Barbecue Chicken and a Christmas Sweater

“Oh the weather outside is frightful.. but the fire is so delightful…”

tumblr_ma81ml1Enq1qcg1glo1_500Okay, so we don’t¬†actually have a fire. But the first part is still true!

Instead, we have lots of blankets, chicken fresh out of the oven, and a dog that is mesmerized by the lights on our Christmas tree.

And I’m perfectly fine with that.

But it’s really, really cold outside. So cold, that I jumped at the opportunity to finally put on Lily’s Christmas sweater that Andy bought her at TJMAXX a couple of weeks ago.. It didn’t go as well as I planned.

She whined and cried, and even attempted to take it off herself. I didn’t feel like torturing her so I told her that I would take it off.. but I just had to snap a few pictures for the blog first ;).

Lily, you’re not allowed to whine about being cold if you’re “too good” for sweaters. Geesh.

Dinner tonight was a good one! Honey Barbecue Chicken Breasts that I covered in a special sauce and baked in the oven.. SO GOOD.

4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1/4 cup flour

1 TBS salt

1 TBS ground black pepper

1 TBS paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

juice of 1 lime

1/4 cup olive oil

4 TBS barbecue sauce (I used Spice World Garlic-Q Sauce)

1/2 cup honey

1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2.) Mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a small bowl.

3.) Cover each chicken breast in flour mixture.

4.) Place chicken breasts in a prepared pan, and cook for 10 minutes.

5.) While the chicken is baking, mix lime juice, barbecue sauce, olive oil and honey in a small bowl.

6.) After 10 minutes, remove pan from oven, and pour the sauce mixture over the chicken breasts.

7.) Return pan to oven and let bake for another 25 minutes.

8.) Remove from oven, and ENJOY!

Now it’s time for a movie night in with the kiddos..

Dog Park Fun and Love-ly Eggs

Last night we headed out to our local dog park, to let Lily blow off a little steam.

Whenever she starts running around the house and grunting.. I know exercise is way overdue, and I was too tired from finals to take her out for a run, so off to the dog park it was.

Lily absolutely¬†loves¬†the dog park. She’s always a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take her long before she’s off running with the big dogs! She always seems to find the only other Vizsla in the park too. It’s like she knows.

We were really excited last night because Lily is finally getting the hang of retrieving. It’s about time!

Andy has a rocket of an arm (all of those years of football must have paid off), and threw the ball a billion times for Lily to retrieve it. She was such a good lily spaz yesterday!

When we got home, the hour in the cold was worth it, because Lily was exhausted.

Whenever Lily gets tired, she sits like a human.

It’s probably one of my favorite things in the world.

When I woke up this morning, I just could not choose between a sweet or savory breakfast, so I decided to have a little bit of both!

Two pieces of whole wheat toast – one with PB2 and banana, and one with havarti cheese and an egg that I cooked in the microwave after reading this post on Lindsay’s blog.

Why have I not cooked my eggs in the microwave before? I honestly feel so, SO stupid! This saved me so much time and dishes and was just as delicious as eggs on the stove.

I even cooked it in a heart-shaped Ramekin because I am nerdy. The eggs were love-ly. You’re welcome for that terrible pun. I am sensing a new go-to breakfast for Running In Heels!

On top of the egg sandwich, I sprinkled a little bit of Penzey’s Sandwich Sprinkle.

My mom has been obsessed with Penzey’s for as long as I can remember, and has given me a TON of spices over the years. They are all so good, and I incorporate them into almost every meal I make. I highly recommend the Sandwich Sprinkle. It gave this sandwich the little bit of kick it needed to make it over the top good. Loved it!

Now it’s off to study a little bit more and then get a good workout in! I’ll be doing my “No More Treadmill Boredom” 5 Mile Interval Workout from yesterday’s post!

Hope you all have a wonderful morning!
